My Speech 2014

Marcus 15/9/2014

       Lollies
Kia ora, Talofa lava, Malo lelei and greetings to you all. My name is Marcus and today I’ll be talking about lollies. Like Fruit Burst, Toffee, Lollipops, Jaffas, gummy bears and nerds are all lollies which have one thing in common, SUGAR, SUGAR, SUGAR!!!

Lollies are so yummy but they are very bad for your health. This is  because it contains a lot of sugar which can rot your teeth and give you diabetes if you eat too much. So make sure you don’t eat lollies everyday or too much in one time or ALL your teeth will fall out! :)

Most lollies are made from Sugar and flavours such as Apple, Strawberry,  Grape, Banana, Lemon, Lime and more.

The person who invented lollies was Alfred Horace Laulie in 1532.Sir Alfred Horace Laulie made a lollie called Cod Liver Oil Delight, before they used honey to make lollies before sugar was invented.

Lollies are made in huge factories. A huge lollies brand in New Zealand is Pascalls. They make delicious milk chocolate, wine gums, pineapple lumps, jellies, swirls, marshmallows and much more.

To make lollies, take 1 cup of white sugar, 2 tablespoons of syrup, half a cup of water, vanilla essence and food colouring, add into a container and then is combined. They then heat the sugar and until it starts to boil it is ready. Next they get a big roll and make sure everything is there so they can make patterns. Then they roll it and put other stuff in it so it will stop breaking our teeth when we bite lollies. When they make lollies in the shops they make huge lollies which weigh about 70kg. Next they stretch it to make it even, then when it’s the right thickness they keep it soft and pliable ( Easily Bent ). He then rolls it into rectangles. And waits for it to get rock hard, they then chop it really fast on a slight angle.

My favourite lollies are wine gums and my favourite flavoured lolly is banana. Wine gums are chewy jelly lollies like gummy bears, liquorice, snakes, and many more.

In Spain lollies are called Chubar. In Germany they call them Tagada. In America people call them Candy in New Zealand we call them LOLLIES!

Thank you for listening to my speech. I hope you enjoyed it and learned something new about lollies :)
